Get to know Shona (she/they), our new Program Manager. We asked Shona 10 questions to help us get to know her better. Check out what she said below!
What is your role with the Service Board?
I am the Program Manager at tSB, which means I help plan and oversee the program schedule and calendar. I engage other organizations and community members to help facilitate program topics and ensure everything runs smoothly.
What is your favorite thing about your job?
My favorite part of my job is getting to meet so many new people. I email with strangers all the time, but the cool thing is that sometimes those strangers become friends, or they become part of my professional network, which is neat.
What do you like to do outside of work?
Outside of work I spend most of my time fussing over my dogs and partner. I really enjoy taking them out to new places to walk because I feel like you can physically see the stoke in their faces, which really makes me joyful. Pre-Covid I went to the gym 3 times a week and tried to climb indoors whenever possible.
What motivates you?
Human-kind.I think we’re super unique. I think the abilities we have to form connections with one another is a superpower of ours. As an empathetic person I’m passionate about trying to remain open to new connections because I am always floored by how incredible people can be when they show their heart.
Do you have a favorite quote, poem, or book?
My favorite book is the Alchemist by Paolo Coelho. It taught me a lot about myself and how to chase my dreams.
But also all about love by bell hooks
If you could pick one superpower, what would it be?
Hmm….I think unlimited swimming powers where I don’t have to come up for breath would be cool. The Orca enthusiast in me says that I might just join the J-pod up here in the Sound and spend the rest of my days bobbin around with the chiller whales.
What kind of music do you listen to?
Kendrick Lamar, Odesza and Flume are my favee faves, closely followed by Rihanna, Lizzo and Maggie Rogers
What’s something about you that surprises people?
I was a terrible student from elementary school all the way through high school. I had a lot going on in my personal family life that made school a place that I didn’t want to be. I was suspended from my water polo team once my senior year because my grades dropped so low. I never thought I was going to even go to college, and now I’m someone with a Bachelor’s Degree from a 4-year university. WILD.
What are your top three favorite foods?
What three traits define you?
Exuberance, Pride, Loyalty
