What is a WINTERn?

WINTERns are youth selected from prior cohorts to build professional skills, leadership practice and eventual careers in public service. WINTERns select a critical function at our organization which they would like to support and grow in for 9-months, including fundraising, marketing, general administration, program logistics and inventory management. Successful participants also to job site visits and produce final strategic projects to benefit tSB’s work, with most receiving stipends upon conclusion. 

The goal of this program is to continue to enhance youth leadership and success by providing a place to develop professional and team skills, access specific job training and continuing mentorship, and build industry connections. Previous WINTERns have gained valuable skills and connection to support gaining a tangible employment offer, while many have been offered long-term roles at tSB and our partners

Compensation & Schedule

• Winterns will receive a stipend upon completion and school credit/Community service hours (stipend amount determined by annual budget)
• Winterns will receive a letter of recommendation, a tSB swag bag and other opportunities for professional development
• Schedule is flexible and part-time, requiring 8-10 hrs/week in person at tSB HQ

Qualifications to become a Wintern

• Prior participation in tSB programs (either as Prophet or Peer Leader)
• Ability to multitask & work independently
• Experience with and understanding of the diverse communities we serve
• Passion for the mission and values of tSB – mentoring, service, social justice and outdoor adventure

Skills needed

• Social media platform experience ex: Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn
• Proficient with Microsoft suite and G suite is preferred but not required
• Energetic, hard working and enthusiastic demeanor that takes initiative

Past WINTERn Roles & Responsibilities

1. Helping to coordinate Winter Program events
   • Support program staff as needed (Tasks may include but are not limited to)
   • Attend some program nights 
   • Reviewing/assisting with the creation of lesson plans, for Core Program and Peer Leader Program 
   • Organizing Program supplies and Program files 
   • Communicating with Peer Leaders to support with community service project coordination and Major Program events (Kick off- mothers day Brunch)
   • Organizing/Updating snowboard gear inventory
2. Supporting the planning and execution of an effective media and visibility strategy, through maintaining tSB’s social media presence, creating content, monitoring communications, working with partners, and assisting with tabling and outreach at various community and corporate events.
3. Supporting the planning and execution of tSB’s appreciation events, including Kick-Off &Gear Day, Women of influence, Graduation, Family Group Activities, volunteer events & more.
4. Attend at least two meetings with our Board of Directors during internship to develop knowledge of non-profit leadership and management.
