I am forever grateful for tSB as a new resident to Washington. tSB has provided a safe space and sense of community as I’m across the country away from my support system in Wisconsin . Not only has tSB provided this safe space, but also the opportunity to connect, grow and learn with others who have had similar experiences to mine. As an Indigenous woman, it’s not often I’m in the room with others who grew up how I grew up. It’s been such a privilege getting to work with tSB staff, volunteers and of course, youth. These Indians helped me find a piece of belonging even though my time with them has been short. tSB has been such a special part of my life since being in Seattle and I hope to continue to work with them for as long as I can. I truly believe in their mission and values as they are identical to my own morals. I hope everyone is able to work with this program.

tSB has been such a meaningful and impactful space for me as a womxn in snowboarding. I wish I had this kind of inclusive community full of so many womxn shredders to look up to when I was growing up on the mountain. It’s been a heavy time in our world recently, but being involved with tSB gives me so much purpose and hope and helps me remember that I am not alone. I am beyond stoked to be involved in co-creating a more expansive reality for the next generation of snowboarders!

I joined tSB as a freshman in high school when I had little to no social justice education. Growing up in a first-generation, low-income, immigrant household made me question why people like me weren’t represented in politics but I didn’t know why. Learning about race, gender, and identity empowered me to get involved in advocacy and community engagement that later led to future opportunities for leadership. tSB was a fundamental part of my growth as a young person and gave me access to snowboarding, surfing, the outdoors, and a community where I will always feel at home. Years later, as a mentor, witnessing the same growth in the youth today makes me cherish the meaningful connections that tSB fosters and the importance of social justice education in underrepresented communities.
