Are you passionate about supporting youth in claiming their power? Want to be a part of a collaborative community? Becoming a mentor might be right for you. tSB’s Mentor program follows a group mentorship structure where mentors provide guidance, feedback, and support, but the group dynamic plays a crucial role in shaping the development of the individual.

Responsibilities:

    • Your Primary Role is to be present, authentic, and set a good example as a positive role-model
    • Take ownership in leading one Core Program Wednesday Workshop along side a Peer Leader
    • Host one Family Group Outing with youth
    • Maintain a safe environment for all participants in training, meetings,  program activities, etc.
    • Be present during program, monitor progress, and report any issues or concerns to staff
    • Be willing to hold space for hard conversations, listen to challenges and prioritize self esteem among participants
    • Be compassionate and share your experience as needed to encourage the youth
    • Collaborate with program staff to help support the execution of  program activities
    • If possible, provide rides for youth in your area to and from program days. (Mileage reimbursed)

Qualifications:

  • Understands our mission and vision or is willing to learn
  • Has excellent communication skills and enjoys both one-on-one and group interactions
  • A strong interest in learning about OR previous experience in community building, social justice, or coaching or mentoring youth is preferred
  • A history of following through with commitments and the ability to communicate last minute changes or needs to staff directly.
  • Comfortable with some level of ambiguity.
  • Experience setting personal boundaries and practicing self care.

Time Commitment and tSB Events:

  • 2-10 hours per week Jan. 22nd- May 17th
  • 2 day overnight Volunteer Retreat  December 14-15th 
  • As necessary or applicable, attend free local trainings prior to program
  • Attend 2 overnight youth retreats:
    • February 1st-2nd
    • May 9th-11th
  • Attend 70% of programing between January-May, including:
    • Wednesday evenings from 6pm – 8:00pm 
      • January 22nd- May 7th
    • Saturdays from 10:00 – 2:00 (Service Days) OR 7am – 4pm (Snowboarding Days)
      • February 8th – May 3rd
  • Attend final graduation on May 17th
  • Opt. in to offer rides to youth participants. Gas reimbursement available.
  • OPTIONAL Mentor-only and All Volunteer Social Events

  • All meals (in accordance with dietary restrictions), equipment and supplies provided during program participation
  • Mileage reimbursement for use of personal vehicle at volunteer rate
  • Opportunities to access industry deals on gear, services and training through a variety of partners in our network

COVID Safety

the Service Board (tSB) is constantly monitoring the developments of the COVID-19 pandemic closely. tSB’s Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) and programming are subject to change as public health recommendations change. tSB will follow CDC guidelines and Washington State’s Safe Start Plan for COVID-19

All participants, volunteers, and staff must always wear masks when participating during in-person tSB activity. (Participants will be provided with a mask and hand sanitizer if needed). tSB will have a check-in procedure checklist for each in-person outdoor trip and activity.
