Time Commitment and tSB Events:

Our Core Program will look a little different this year. After much consideration and a lot of community conversations, we have decided to make some changes. This year’s Core Program will be four months long, beginning in late January and ending in mid-May. We believe this change will provide more flexibility for all of our participants and allow youth to participate in other extracurricular activities.

  •  Attend volunteer trainings in January prior to Core Program
  • Attend 80% of Core Program meetings between January and early May, including:
    • Weekly Wednesday evenings from 5:30 pm – 8:00 pm
    • Weekly Saturdays 7am – 4pm for Snowboarding (winter)
    • Weekly Saturdays 10am – 2pm for Service Projects in the community (spring)
  • Attend two overnight retreats, one in January and one in May
  • Attend Core Program graduation in the spring (will take place on a Sat from 11am – 2pm)
  • Coordinate two small-group activities outside of Core Program dates with fellow Mentors (Family Group Activities)

Benefits:

  • Build a network of supportive, lifelong relationships with peers and support youth in the community
  • Increase your professional, interpersonal, and leadership skills through free training and experience the support of experienced staff
  • Learn the inner-workings of a community based organization rooted in social justice to become an effective advocate for yourself and others
  • All meals (in accordance with dietary restrictions), equipment and supplies provided during program participation
  • Mileage can be reimbursed for use of personal vehicle usage for the program at the volunteer reimbursement rate of 14 cents per mile
  • Opportunities to access outdoor industry deals on gear, services and training through a variety of partners in our network
  • Snowboarding gear, lift tickets, and transportation provided for Saturday on-mountain days (gear to be returned to tSB at the conclusion of Core Program)
